Events and Projects!

Kisses for Cancer | August 17, 2013

Planned in just under four months, Kisses for Cancer (K4C) is a swiftly growing health initiative.  Hand-written invitations with personal messages were sent out by mail to the long time supporters of Virgin Fingertips.  Their instructions to Instagram, Facebook and Tweet their special notice let the secret out the bag and soon enough over 200 guests RSVPed and/or donated!  With a portion of the proceeds going to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), the event was quite sentimental with personal stories, a musical performance by Carvens Lissant, a heartfelt speech from Andrew Prince, a live DJ and MC (DJ Alter Ego and O'Shane Dell), personalized & handmade goodie bags and several honorees who are still fighting valiantly against cancer.

"Kisses for Cancer is most definitely the highlight of my entire career.  Everything was handmade and every piece was conceived from a sentimental moment in my life.  It was such a blessing to myself and everyone who was a part of it.  The concept was born out of something very tragic and transforming that pain into philanthropy and purpose is truly breathtaking.  Can't wait to do it again!"

The UABBQ | July 13, 2013

It's not just any BBQ...

It's not everyday someone asks you to cover an event, a barbecue at that.  But when it's possibly the largest BBQ in New York City, how can you say no?  Tasked with interviewing the 21 members of The Committee, Tassika did several pre and post-event articles documenting the process of throwing one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer.  The UABBQ is organized from beginning to end by University at Albany's enthusiastic alum.   With over 1000 guests, Tassika put all the pieces to the puzzle together about the growing tradition in a compelling story describing how The Committee works, their favorite moments, challenges and what guys really talk about when there aren't any women around.  Read some of the articles here, here, here. And one more here.  Enjoy!

"Working with these guys was a huge honor.  It was a 'no girls allowed' territory and they chose little old me.  It was one of my most exciting projects as a writer.  It takes so many people to tell a story; from the videographer, to the photographers, to the bloggers and most importantly the readers.  I'm just glad I got to work with everyone. I can honestly say I was amongst the next generation of greats."

Two Countries, One Cause

May 1, 2010

Founded by her best friend, Tiffany Thompson, Two Countries, One Cause Benefit Concert was the first of its kind at Temple University.  Tiffany and co-founder Chris Uneira led an heroic mission to raise nearly $10,000 to aid families in devestated areas struck by natural disasters.  As the Program Coordinator, Tassika covered the aesthetics of the event & worked behind the scenes to transform an amazing initiative into a tangible display of true philanthropy.

"It's not everyday your best friend decides to get up and save the world.  With a dream so big, there was nothing left for me to do but to take care of the small details.  When you're responding to natural disasters, time is of the essence.  The further you get from the day of the incident, the more people forget about it.  It's no longer in the headlines, people are talking less and less about it and before you know it, a whole population is forgotten.  My  job was to inspire people with the presentation of our production.  People had to feel like Tiffany did when she woke up that morning six months after the tragedy.   In order to do that, it takes a dedicated and creative team of people following an admirable leader.  Tiffany and the group responsible for Two Countries, One Cause was all that and more."
