Frequently Asked Questions

The Personal Stuff

What's your ethnicity?

I'm Nevisian from the beautiful islands of St. Kitts and Nevis; the third wealthiest country in the Carribean!  Oh and Dominican - WEPA!

What school did you go to?

I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, NY. Catholic school girls rock and I'm #TempleMADE!

Who are your idols?

Whitney Houston, Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, Steve Jobs, Nikki Giovanni, Shonda Rhimes, and my dad.

What's your inspiration?

It depends on whichever project I'm working on.  When it comes to writing -  people, places and things inspire me - nouns, pretty much.  When it comes to my documentary - my dad, my family and the people starring in it inspire me.  When it comes to planning events - the cause I'm raising money for inspires me.  Overall though, I think the human condition is very inspiring.  There's a lot going on all the time and I'm a student of my own life.  I'm completely intrigued by and enamored with the human experience.

Are you in a relationship?

If I had a dollar for every time I was asked that, I'd be rich, but I get it.  It's embarrassing but I get it (lol). I guess writing about relationships all the time makes people wonder - occupational hazard.  The answer is no.  I haven't been in a relationship in nearly two years.  As Lady Gaga put it, "Some women choose to follow men and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore."

All About Writing

Will you still write for Virgin Fingertips?

Once in a while but nowhere near the capacity in which I have before.  Virgin Fingertips is the cocoon and Made with Love is the butterfly.  My hope is that Virgin Fingertips will be viewed as a vintage journal where people can go back and recall those moments without exactly living in them.  Because I owe so much of who I've become and what I've been able to do to VF, I owe it to my readers to show up every once in a while.  I'm even considering putting out a collection with the most moving or viewed posts.  We'll see.

Where is the book?!

She's Your Daughter Too is getting ready for a beautiful launch!  Artistically, creatively, legally - everything has to be as close to perfect as possible and that takes time. Time, I can't put a number to but it will all be worth it.  That's the promise I made to myself and to the readers.

Of all the things you've written, what's your favorite?

So far, my novel.  She's Your Daughter Too took so much out of me and still, it was so fulfilling.  Writing the majority of it at home in St. Thomas, USVI added an entirely new level of depth and sentiment to it.  I'm still in awe of it.

What's the point of this website?

To build the brand which is ME!  Virgin Fingertips wasn't really an exchange whereas this site, there are more opportunities to interact.  You can see and participate in my upcoming projects.  You have a bird's eye view to who I am as a professional and the process of being such.  I'm not just a writer. I'm a coordinator, I'm a philanthropist, I'm an event planner, I do hair, I do makeup, I support entrepeneurs.  I'm a producer.  This is a broader view of who I am and the type of services I provide on a business level.  You can hire me!  And I'm still writing here in a different way, of course.  #TassTalks is really catered to you.  It's a bit more contemporary and adjusted to the current culture.  It's not my diary and it includes way more technical writing than freestyles.  I've transformed my gifts into skills and Made with Love is the product of that.

How did you choose the title Made with Love?

At first, it was just going to be self-titled and I was going to sign the short letter on the homepage, 'made with love, tassika.'  The minute I typed it, a light bulb went off.  Everything I do is made with love.  I don't create anything without it.  I'm sentimental and I display that openly when it comes to my work so it just made sense.
